Chamomile Quality Grades Explained

Egyptian Chamomile Grading System
Egyptian chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is available in several quality grades, each suited to different applications and price points.
Grade 1: Premium Whole Flowers
The highest grade features intact, bright yellow-white flower heads with minimal stem content. Volatile oil content exceeds 0.8%. Ideal for premium loose-leaf tea blends and pharmaceutical applications.
Grade 2: Standard Whole Flowers
Good quality whole flowers with slightly more stem content. Volatile oil content of 0.4-0.8%. Suitable for standard tea blends and food manufacturing.
Grade 3: Tea Bag Cut (T.B.C.)
Flowers cut to 1-3mm particle size specifically for tea bag production. Consistent particle size ensures even extraction and filling. Most popular grade for commercial tea production.
Grade 4: Crushed/Powder
Fine cut or powdered chamomile for extract production, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical capsules. Particle size below 1mm.
Choosing the Right Grade
Consider your end application, budget, and quality requirements. Premium grades command higher prices but deliver superior flavor and appearance. For industrial applications, lower grades offer excellent value.
